Catoctin Mountain Park--Chestnut Picnic Area Maryland, US	mp3 22.5mb or streaming: 6.75mb stereo	This is a combination of a night recording and a day recording (some may consider it a nature recording sin). What I believe are deer snorts ring through the young deciduous forest. The Oblong-winged katydid sounds like a ratcheting mechanic with periodic common true katydids (chee, chee, chee). Blackwater NWR Maryland, US Field adjacent to the wildlife drive	mp3 4.61mb stereo	February 2008, late morning at the end of the wildlife drive I found a small field of mostly snow geese and a few Canada geese. I pulled to the side of the road and setup the mics using a car door as a wind break, it was very windy. Several high altitude jets and the usual traffic din can be heard throughout, but it's not bad for a side of the road recording. ORTF MK21, SD 744t
Blackwater NWR Maryland, US Tubman Road Trail	wma 72.9mb quad surround	The Tubman Road Trail is a remote trail that doesn't pull many visitors away from the main part of the refuge (not at 7pm Saturday evening anyway). The day I was there there was a lot of wildlife, snakes frogs, etc. Northern Bobwhite, Northern Cricket Frogs, and Laughing Gulls can be heard. The front was recorded with my standard ORTF Schoeps array, the rear is a set of omni mics about 1 meter apart on either side of the ORTF. ORTF MK21, DPA 4006, SD 744t
Carolina Sandhills NWR South Carolina, US Pool E	mp3 22.7mb stereo	Recorded at the SONG Conference in June, 2007.. In the Carolina Sandhill National Wildlife Refuge, "Pool E". Carpenter Frogs, Eastern Wood Peewee, Red Cockaded Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, are among the many species heard in this recording. The spring woodland features, warblers, vireos, blue jays, red-bellied woodpecker and a brown-headed cowbird. Sandhill Crane Flyout Lodi, California US	mp3 1.25 mb stereo	Featuring Tundra Swans, At the Lodi Crane Festival, November 2004 Paul Matzner and I were presenting a recording/listening workshop for the second time. This year we had time for some recording, this represents my first and only effort at field recording with a laptop. I powered my MOTU 896 HD from a 12v battery and an inverter. The laptop gave out before the interface. It really proved to me the difficulty of field recording with a laptop. Snowy Egret & Black-Crowned Night Herons San Francisco, California US	mp3 7.5mb stereo	Feeding on Alcatraz GGNRA, CA May 2005 Dan Dugan and I were invited to record some of the nesting birds. This was a superb location on the south side of the island, we were able to place the mics within 5' of the nesting birds. Alcatraz Island Ambiance San Francisco, California US	mp3 14.8mb stereo	Recorded at Alcatraz Island, GGNRA, CA May 2005 The next morning again on the same side of the island, very strange we spent the night in cellblock B. You can hear a Pigeon Guillemot at the very top of the recording, it's the very high pitched one. Also Western Gulls and Brant's Cormorants (the croaky, grunty one).
